I was born with glass bones and paper skin. Every morning I break my legs, and every afternoon I break my arms. At night, I lie awake in agony until my heart attacks put me to sleep.

    Hey guys!
The guy in the middle of this picture is a man named Steve, who I had the pleasure of meeting today. Steve is an advocate for homelessness in America (especially the DC area) and has a non-profit called S.T.E.V.E, or “Strives To End Vagrancy Everywhere”. Steve has a history of homelessness and is still technically homeless, although he does have a place to live and is doing well. I don’t want to rehash his whole story, but I can honestly tell you that talking to him today has changed my life and my views on homelessness.
The reason I’m making this post, however, is because he mentioned that he has a couple more days left on a deal he made with someone who will give him $2 for every like he gets on his facebook page. That’s a lot of money. So I figured, a few thousand people follow me, and if even half of them just clicked “like” on his page, he’d have thousands of dollars he’d be receiving. So, if you guys could all go to
https://www.facebook.com/BBSBetterBelieveSteve
and click like, I would be super grateful. Steve taught me a lot today and I’m not sure how else to repay him other than to live by what I learned and maybe get him a few extra bucks.
The most important thing I learned about homelessness today is that it can happen to anyone. A lot of the time, homelessness happens with one bad decision. I can’t pretend I’ve never made a bad decision, and neither can you. The difference is that I have a loving family, friends, an education, and a lot of people willing to help me. Not everyone does. Nobody makes it in this world on their own, so if you can reach out to a homeless person and even offer camaraderie or a kind look if you can’t offer money, you’re going to make a difference. And I believe that as a decent human being, you’re obligated to do that. The leading cause of homelessness is the lack of affordable housing, and as someone who has been apartment shopping in the DC area, I can deeply understand, and I want to help.
So, everyone, do what you can, please. And what you can do right now without even moving is like this facebook page! and reblog this post.
Thank you, and have a wonderful day (:
